How Self-Ownership Can Empower Your Healing Growth and Transformation

Self-ownership is one of the most powerful healing, growth, and transformation tools. When you own your thoughts, feelings, and experiences – you can start to make choices based on what is best for us rather than what others want or expect. You can also begin to see yourself in a more positive light, and this increased self-awareness can lead to greater happiness and well-being.

When it comes to transforming your life, self-ownership is a principle that is essential to our understanding of the idea that each person has ownership over their own body and life and that no one else has the right to violate that ownership. Understanding and accepting this to be true can help you create space to pursue your happiness instead of living a life where you prioritize others over yourself. Simply put, self-ownership is the key to freedom.

Ultimately, self-ownership is taking responsibility for your actions so you can be empowered to create the life you truly want to live. It also means living in your power by choosing what you do with your own time, energy, body, mind, and spirit. Taking charge of your own life in this way can open up more space to make more choices aligned with your deepest truths and desires.

When you can love yourself unconditionally, it creates a ripple effect that touches not the people around you. In this blog post, I will explore self-ownership, why it’s important, and how it can lead to deeper happiness and fulfillment.

What is Self-Ownership?

According to Wikipedia, self-ownership is the sovereignty of the individual or individual sovereignty, is the concept of property in one's person, expressed as the moral or natural right of a person to have bodily integrity and be the exclusive controller of one's own body and life.

Here at Women Who Werk, we define self-ownership as the part of the process where you feel empowered in your actions, thoughts, habits, and beliefs. It’s the third Self-Werk Pillar of Success, and doing WERK in this pillar can help you courageously stand in your power as you build your Queendom.

Self-ownership isn't just about having control over yourself; it's also about taking responsibility for your happiness and success. Knowing that you have a hand in directing your destiny can help you create the momentum needed to push yourself to new levels to create the life you want for yourself.

Have you ever told yourself, “I am going to be happy, no matter what," or "I am responsible for my happiness??” If so, guess what? You were embracing ownership!

When you embrace ownership, you know, live with the belief that you are doing what you can to create the best life possible.

One of the most powerful things you can do for yourself is to take ownership of your life. That means taking responsibility for your thoughts, emotions, and actions. It also means setting boundaries and taking care of yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally.

I’m finally ready to own my own power, to say, “This is who I am.” If you like it, you like it. And if you don’t like it, you don’t. So watch out; I’m gonna fly.

Why Self-Ownership Matters

As you do your Self-Werk in this area, it’s important to remember that when you own your truth, you're acknowledging your worth and value. You're saying that you matter and that your opinion counts.

Are you ready to live a more authentic life? It starts with being proud of who you are and how far you’ve come. "Owning your truth" is a phrase that has been gaining much traction lately, and for a good reason. In a world where we are constantly bombarded with messages telling us who we should be and how we should look, it can be easy to lose sight of your unique identities.

When you can embrace who you are, flaws and all, it can be easier to create your happiness instead of looking to others to provide it. Creating a life that is authentic and meaningful can also become easier because you become the captain of your own ship, steering it in the direction you want it to go.

Owning your truth and claiming your power are two of the most important things you can do for yourself. Both require you to take responsibility for your choices and permit yourself to be who you are without apologies or excuses.

You can make your journey when you are empowered and confident in making decisions about your life. Creating a life where you can do what you want to do, go where you want to, and be who you want to be is the ultimate gift you can give yourself.

What It Looks Life When You Lack Self-Ownership

Picture a world where you have no say in what you do with your time, your energy, or your money. You are told what to do, when, and how to do it.

You are constantly being judged and evaluated by others. Your worth depends on how well you conform to what others want or expect from you, and you are not truly free to be yourself; instead, you must always be weighing your options and choosing the path that will please others the most.

Sound familiar? If so, it's likely because this is the reality for many people today. This constant pressure to conform to societal norms and expectations can be overwhelming.

When you are not in control of your life, you may feel like you're constantly reacting to the world and that your choices are limited. Living with a limited mindset can lead to feelings of powerlessness, helplessness, stress, and anxiety.

You can also become disconnected from your authentic self when you lack self-ownership. It can also show up like:

  • The inability to be in control of your choices and actions.

  • Feeling you are at the mercy of others or outside forces.

  • A sense of victimization.

  • Feeling empty, unfulfilled, and lost.

But it doesn't have to be this way. By taking back control of your life, you can start making choices that are truly aligned with who you are and what you want out in life.

Incorporating Self-Ownership into Your Healing Journey

Can you think of a time when you gave your power away, allowing others to dictate how you should feel, what you should do, or how you should heal? The truth is, only you know what is best for you. By doing Self-ownership Self-Werk, you can learn to be more present in each moment, living with intention.

When you take ownership of your healing journey, you can transform your life and gain a new sense of empowerment. Allowing yourself to heal on your own terms can be a challenge, but it is also freeing. You realize that you no longer have to wait for someone else to permit you to heal. Instead, you know that you can move at your own pace and choose the best methods.

There is so much power in tapping into your inner strength, so you can open yourself up to limitless possibilities. Here are a few things you can do to get started:

  • Learn as much as possible about the process of healing. What works for one person may not work for another, so educating yourself about the different options is important.

  • Find a support system that can help you through this process. Whether this means finding a therapist or reaching out to friends and family, it is important to have people in your life who will support you on this journey.

  • Give yourself time and space to heal. This means setting boundaries and taking breaks when necessary. Remember that healing takes time, so be patient with yourself and allow yourself the time and space needed to heal in the best way possible.

  • Get clear on your values and priorities and start saying "no" to the things that don't align.

  • Guard your time and energy; invest in things that bring you joy and make you feel good about yourself.

  • Trust yourself. You know yourself better than anyone else, so don't let others make decisions for you; instead, listen to your intuition and act accordingly.

Self-Ownership Self-Werk Activity

It's your responsibility to take responsibility for your happiness and show up for yourself in a way that feels right for you, not anyone else. This requires you to be honest with yourself about what you need and want, even if it doesn't fit into what others think is best for you.

One of the most powerful things you can do for yourself is to own your truth. When you own your truth, you empower yourself to create the life you want and open yourself up to greater connection and intimacy with others.

To do WERK in this area, we recommend journaling about:

  • The lessons you learned from past experiences where you fell short

  • Writing about your accomplishments, big and small.

  • The woman you are now and the woman you are becoming.

  • How you will show up for others without sacrificing yourself.

  • Self-care activities you want to incorporate into your routine nurture your mind, body, and soul.

As you move through our Self-Werk Pillars of Success, you’ll find that you’ll learn to release your past, discover your strengths, learn new skills, create new habits, accept support from others, and have more confidence in trusting the process of your journey. You will also open yourself up to do things out of your comfort zone, where true change and growth happen.
